ARCENT, which began as 3rd Army on Nov. 7, 1918, and a quarter-century later raced across Europe under GEN George S. Patton during WWII, outpacing enemy and allies alike. The United States Third Army enjoyed an impressive history of glory and victory during it's lifetime. The Third Army was at it's best and most famous when it was commanded by the great combat general, George Smith Patton, Jr. It was under the command of General Patton that the Third Army saw it's only period of actual combat. Today, ARCENT still leads the U.S. Army’s charge into combat. It spearheaded the drive into Iraq in Desert Storm and has remained in theater ever since, leading American forces into Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
