Solar chargers employ solar energy to supply electricity to devices or charge batteries, and are generally portable. Small portable models designed to charge a range of different mobile phones, cell phones, iPods or other portable audio equipment. A wind up radio or clockwork radio is a radio that is powered by human muscle power rather than batteries or the electrical grid. Wind up radios is intended for camping, emergencies and for areas where there is no electrical grid and replacement batteries are hard to obtain, such as in developing countries and remote settlements. They are also useful where radio is not used on a regular basis and batteries would deteriorate, such as a vacation home or cabin. An axe is a tool used for chopping or splitting objects, such as tree limbs or logs. A hatchet is appropriate for cutting dead branches, twigs, firewood and can be operated with one hand. A wire saw is a method using a metal or cable for cutting.
