The lightweight and easy to
use musette bag was a popular
alternative pack for many
soldiers who would be
otherwise be using the M-1928
Haversack. Although the
musette bag was never the
standard backpack, it was used
widely in all theaters of
World War II. A small cotton
canvas with a shoulder strap,
as one used by soldiers or
travelers. The cycling
mussette bag is used for
containing food and drinks
given to riders in a feed zone
during a cycle race. The
mussette bag is designed so
that it can be easily grabbed
by a moving rider. The
shoulder strap is placed over
the head and one shoulder, the
contents are then removed and
placed into jersey pockets or
bottles are placed into bottle
cages. A mussette bag is also
used during hiking, camping,
hunting, fishing, marching,
etc. Bags made from canvas are
sturdy, tough, and typically
have a long life.
