Flight Jackets

Vintage jackets is a generic term for new jackets that originated from a previous era. All of our vintage outerwear is brand new unless otherwise stated. Demand and acceptance of vintage jackets has increased dramatically since the early 1990s, due in part to increased visibility, as vintage clothing was increasingly worn by celebrities. Vintage jackets are especially popular because they are known for their good quality, fine material, style, and uniqueness. The flight jacket, bomber jacket, or bombardier jackett refers to a garment originally created for pilots, and they eventually became part of popular culture and apparel. In the early 2000s, the jacket was popular casual wear in hip-hop fashion. The jacket has also caught on with several police departments across the United States for its sturdy design and heavy insulation.

CWU-45P Flight Jackets

The CWU-45P was the original flight jacket designed and issued by the United States Air Force. Before and during World War I, pilots had flown planes with open cockpits, which subjected them to cold weather. In an attempt to keep pilots warm, the US Army had created the Aviation Clothing Board in 1917, they bared the responsibility of designing a jacket to fit the specific needs for a pilot. Shortly after the innovation of the flight jacket took full effect, pilots were presented with leather flight jackets. The jacket can now be seen worn by civilian and pilots alike. The jacket presents a unique and fashionable style that preserves warmth on cold winter days. The CWU-45P is made with the same standards as the Nomex version worn by the US Air Force when stated. The jacket is fully lined with quilted flight lining and the cargo pockets are fully lined with double needle stitching. The CWU-45P flight jacket is great for use in cool to warm weather.

Diamond Quilted Jackets

Diamond quilted flight jackets are fashionable jackets intended to keep the wearer warm during fall/light winter conditions. MA-1 Flight Jackets

The MA-1 bomber jacket also know as the MA-1 flight jacket was first developed in the mid 1950's. The MA-1 bomber jackets were needed at that time because the emergence of the jet age created new requirements for pilot performance, safety and comfort. The MA-1 was designed by the Air Force to serve as an intermediate weight flight jacket for use all year. This was accomplished by manufacturing the MA-1 from very high quality nylon fabrics and polyester interlinings. The jacket is also worn by many people in North America, where it is commonly known as a bomber jacket, especially in areas with cold weather. These bomber jackets became popular in the late 1970s. During the 1980s the bomber jackets had extensive exposure in style magazines such as The Face and i-D, often reimagined by clothes designers of the time. The MA-1 is also in use in several police forces where cold weather is a part of everyday life. They were chosen over several other designs primarily for the sturdy construction, and the heavy insulation needed in extreme cold temperatures.

N-2B Flight Jackets
