recon vest review Submited By: Wildrew on 02/11/2010 I chose this vest because it was lightweight had plenty of pockets and was breathable mesh. Am well satisfied with the vest its quality and price. My only disappointment is that it is not available in tan/khaki. I would buy a second vest in khaki if offered.
My opinion Submited By: Allen Branch on 06/06/2010 This is an awesome vest. It is inherently lightweight which is a good thing if you plan on stuffing the pockets. Too many vests are already heavy just from the material. I have used it for about 2 months now and it is holding up quite well. I like that it has so many pockets so I have a place to put things and know just where they are without having to go through a bag or pack. The description in the ad says 10 pockets but it is actually 14. In addition to the ones visible in the picture it also has two slash pockets on the sides a large pocket on the back and two zippered pockets on the inside. For the price especially this is an awesome product. In fact after I wore it several of my co-workers ordered one for themselves.
Amazing capacity Submited By: T.Y. Lim on 09/23/2010 I recently purchased this vest for use while collecting bugs (entomology work!) because its really useful for having all these little vials jars and other containers easily accessible. But Ive started wearing it all the time because its simply so useful!
Here are a couple more detailed specs on the pockets to supplement the picture.
4 small (can hold keys a small-ish cellphone or stuff like that)
1 medium (can hold pens a thick wallet etc.)
2 large (for bulkier items)
2 flat large (behind the large ones in the bottom front)
2 slash (even larger than the large pockets! nearly 9/over 20 cm deep)
2 inner (about 6x7/15x18 cm)
1 very large back (external; this pocket is huge! it can hold a large paperback or medium hardcover book easily or even a rolled-up windbreaker which is fantastic; item sits flat against the small of the back)
[EDIT: forgot to add it also has a pair of small plastic chest D-rings so you can clip stuff like an ID holder on to it]
As you can see the capacity of this thing is fantastic. I like having lots of pockets all the time to have stuff easily accessible and this lets me carry almost everything I need - phone pens wallet book keys etc. with room to spare. Its also extremely useful for me because I cycle a lot and pants pockets are hard to access while cycling but the chest pockets are extremely easy to reach and manipulate with one hand while on the move.
Further points: I cant speak about the durability of it since Ive only had it about a week (though its seen pretty heavy outdoor use in that week!) but it seems sturdy enough. Its also very light which is nice and the mesh upper half keeps it from being too hot.
There are also two vertical velcro straps in the lower back the function of which I still dont understand - it looks like they may allow you to shorten the back a bit or to hold something strapped to the inside.
I only have one little complaint about it - the front zip is one of those where you slot one side into the other to zip it up (like most jackets/windbreakers) but for some reason it has a double zip (one facing each way) - which seems quite pointless since youre only ever zipping it from the bottom up. The double zip does make it a bit hard and fiddly to slot one side into the other to zip the thing up. But Im getting more used to it.
On the whole an excellent purchase - youll find yourself using it all the time like I do!
Recon Vest Review Submited By: hshumate on 10/14/2010 I needed a vest to hold items for use in video photography. The Recon Vest was exactly what I needed. It is a great product at a great price. We had our company name and products stitched on the vest to advertise while we are shooting. Perfect.
